About Us
For the second year in Atlanta, the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are partnering to help those who are interested in learning more about how to trace their family roots. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts about a variety of topics including basic research techniques and strategies, careful analysis of records and primary sources, evaluating DNA results, using military records, oral histories, free online tools and resources, and more.
Our Team
Our instructors are passionate genealogists who volunteer their time. Many have been with Discover Your Roots since it began in Fayette County, GA in 2019. Presenters include board members and experts from AAHGS Metro Atlanta Chapter, directors and archivists from the Atlanta History Center, authors, historians, and experienced genealogists. Participants of all ages are invited and will be able to attend three of the nine 50-minute classes offered.
